About the Organization
Sword Arts is a club at The University of Texas at Dallas which operates through open structured meetings. The group is a collective of sword enthusiasts that revolve around the concept of sword engagement. By definition, it means engaging oneself in some type of active swordplay, sword fight, or speculation on sword technique. We seek to expand people's understandings, skills, and experiences as it relates to the use of any type of sword. There are many different types of weapon skill sets within the group yet the focus is on character and swordsmanship. It is not just teaching and training, but how it all comes together. Sword Arts encourages participants to learn what they can from other participants and not just the coaches. This is taken further by the clubs association with other local groups related to combative sports, martial arts, or just swordplay. We want to connect participants, who are interested in formal training, with the organizations that dive into that art extensively.

About the Sword
At some point in history, almost every culture developed weapons and fought to survive. The warriors of each culture were highly respected and the weapons they used were considered an important part of their legacy. Every culture recognized the positions of those defending their ways as noble or having some sort of noble qualities. The sword, in many forms and variations, has been the weapon many cultures have associated with their ancient warriors. Even though the sword is no longer used as a warriors primary weapon, it is still viewed by many cultures as a symbol of respect, honor, and tradition. The types of swords created throughout history shows how vast the world of martial arts, ancient practices, techniques, and philosophies are. These weapons are proof that there were people in all areas of the world with something in common. A willingness to fight to defend their beliefs, and a noble type of respect for those who do.

About the Arts
Sword Arts was founded with the understanding of the symbolic meaning of the sword and the arts that developed through its use. The organization strives to expand the arts by providing a place where concepts and ideas can develop into new types of arenas. There is no focus on any particular style of martial arts. The focus is placed on expanding one's skills and knowledge from any level of experience. Whether one's understandings are rooted in martial history, combative sport, or fantasy, all forms and styles of swordsmanship are welcome. The group tries to introduce people to various types of swords, martial arts, and sword sports so that they can pursue the subjects that interest them the most.

As of Now
Sword Arts is a developing organization. We are constantly searching for new ideas for topics, activities, games, equipment, events, gear, locations, etc. Our meetings are subject to improvement and change as the organization grows. For now, we want to keep the meetings open and free of cost. Finding new meeting locations and new coaches will become a growing concern in the future. We look forward to hearing about any assistance, suggestions, insight, or support you might be able to provide.
